Weekly Update 8/17/25

Posted Date: 8/17/25 (2:28 PM)

Good afternoon Falcon Families! What a wonderful first week of school we had. Schedules should be pretty well set and we had our first Falcon Friday with games, music, and prizes in the courtyard at lunch. On Falcon Fridays, we wear RED! I know there were challenges with the traffic, and there will most likely continue to be delays as long as Highway 50 is under construction. To learn more about the Highway 50 project and how it affects East River, please join the Community Meeting with Commissioner Semrad this Thursday, August 21 at 5:30 pm in the media center.

Your student should have received their laptop this week and 9th graders began to receive id’s as well. If you are in grades 10-12, you can keep your id from previous years. If you are a new student to East River, please stop by the media center before school to get your id printed. If you need a replacement id, the cost is $5.

This week on Thursday, August 21, we will have grade level assemblies for 9-11 graders, outlining expectations for behavior and academics. Topics include: dress code, gpa, tardiness, and more. Please be sure your student is on time and present for these very important sessions hosted by our Deans- Michael Conti, Shelton Lewis, and Veronica Lewis.

Please see the reminder from the OCPS Wellness Policy below. Deliveries of food or beverages from off campus to students is not allowed during the school day. This includes any food delivery services. Food deliveries WILL be refused at the gate.

Please see the form attached to this message for Parental Authorization from Student’s Legal Name and/or Pronouns. This form must be completed each year. Forms may be turned into the front office or Room 105.

Please see the “Wish List” for both our SOAR store program and general supplies shared with all students. If your student needs a backpack and supplies, please email me at Rebecca.watson@ocps.net. We have some supplies for free for all students.

Attention Freshmen Parents! If your 9th grade student is currently enrolled in Geometry, they are invited to join a very unique and fun program on campus, 3DE. On Skyward it is labeled as “Sports Rec Ent Essen” but it is an Entrepreneurship/Small Business/Life Skills class. This gives your student a peek into the real world with local and national businesses coming to the classroom to work with your students. If you are interested, please fill out a schedule change form. If you have questions about the program feel free to reach out to matthew.johnston@ocps.net
