SGA

"The Student Government Association (SGA) is an organization run by the students for the students. SGA serves as the liaison between the student body and the administration. Through the SGA, students may express their opinions and participate in the management of school enterprises.

The SGA representatives recognize this responsibility and work diligently to represent the student body. The Student Government Association Club meets monthly with the Leadership Class to vocalize their needs and concerns as well as hearing about what is to come for the month ahead. We want to ensure the proper checks and balances are in order, and we prioritize our student bodies' opinions on that. We work together to promote leadership, initiative, and self-motivation among our members.

Each grade level elects a class office to lead and coordinate activities with the administrators and sponsors. Class meetings are held monthly, and all students are invited to attend their meeting to give input and learn more about what is happening on campus.

Elections for all offices, except freshman class office, are held in the spring of the year prior to serving in office. Freshman elections are held at the beginning of the school year. If you are interested in running for office, please contact Ms. Lara, [email protected].

If you are not running for office and you are just interested in joining SGA, then you can contact Ms. Lara via email or stop by room 528. We have a Leadership Class that applications become available for during the spring and a club that is available to all student's year round.

What's it like in SGA? We organize activities to increase school spirit as well as volunteering in the surrounding community. There are lots of things we do throughout the year.

Here are some of the things we do here at East River:

  • Falcon Fly In - Incoming freshman receive their schedules and take a tour of their classes
  • Club Rush - Learn about all the amazing clubs/ organizations on campus during lunch
  • Spirit Weeks - Dress up all week and enjoy lunch time activities/games
  • Pep Rallies - School Spirit assembly at the end of the day to introduce sports, play games, and compete for the spirit stick for your class
  • Homecoming Week - Enjoy a week of spirit! Dressing up, playing games during lunch, enjoying after school activities like movies/ powderpuff/ football game and end the week with a dance!
  • Food Drive - Collect non-perishable food donations for our families during the holidays
