What is Your Path?

Here are your Options

There are many educational and career pathways you can take after high school.  There is the 4-year route, the 2-year route, the tech school route, or the direct to work route.  It can feel very intimidating on which path to take, but with the right research, preparation, and support, you can make the choice that is right for you.

Many students attend college right after high school.  To reach a four-year college, you can apply directly to the school from high school based on your grades and test scores, or you can attend a state or community college first, earn an AA degree, and then transfer to a four-year universtiy to complete your bachelor’s degree.  Key steps for either path include researching colleges, preparing academically, applying, and understanding the requirements for your chosen major and the university.

Attending a trade school is a great way to learn hands-on skills and get hired into stable, in-demand careers! Trade programs are offered through both state colleges and at technical and vocational schools, such as Orange County Technical College. Students who study at trade schools typically receive a certificate of completion in their profession/area of study, but not an associate or bachelor's degree. Trade school is a great option for students who know what they want to pursue professionally after high school.

A student may want to enter the workforce directly out of high school.  Reasons may include supporting their family, taking time to weigh their educational options, and saving money. Whatever your reason, a student will need to research jobs, apply to the open positions, and secure a job to fit their needs. A person will need a great resume and cover letter to prepare for interviews to secure the position and make the job search a success.

The best choice you can make is the one that’s best for you. No matter the path you choose, the ERHS College & Career Center is here to support you!
